Jobs for international students in UK
Students in the UK can find out about any part-time jobs that are available by consulting notice boards around student institutions, looking in local newspapers and job centers, and visiting their college or university careers office.
Many student institutions have their own 'job shop’, which displays part-time and holiday vacancies and may issue job vacancy bulletins.
The careers service can also provide (international) students with extensive information and advice about employment, training and further study, and helping students with job-hunting and making applications in UK.
Taking a student job
Before taking a job, students should think carefully about how much time they would have available. Success on their course must be their priority. Their studies may be intensive and demanding and they should be realistic about the amount of time this will leave for part-time work.
Many students find that working part time helps improve their English, but students must be careful not to let work interfere with their studies.
Job hunting in UK
Looking for a job is seldom easy for any student. For the international student, the job search process can be especially confusing. Students may lack an understanding of the UK employment regulations, or perhaps they are unaware of the impact their career choice has on their job search.
Students may also be unsure about their role as the student job seeker and the resources used by the UK employers to find candidates.
Maybe students will decide that they wish to stay on in the UK and look for a job or to return home or travel to another country to look for a job and work there.
Preparation
Whatever the decision they make is it’s important to prepare well in advance and get as much informed as one can.
1) If you feel like working in the UK, see how much money you need to earn. Do you have time to work as well when you are studying?
2) First of all check if you eligible for working in the UK, and if so, see how many hours a week you can work. For certain types of work programs, you may want to get a visa before coming to the UK.
3) Start searching for the job you want.
4) To apply for a job, you may want to create a British-style CV and write a cover letter.
5) Prepare yourself to be invited to one or more job interviews.
6) Once you have started working you have to start adapting to the culture of the place you’re going to work at workplace and you’ll have to deal with issues such as tax. You also may need to open a bank account.
